Joelton TN is Rich in History

The community of Joelton TN is nestled within Nashville's western city limits, just north of the state capitol and east of the Hermitage railroad station. In the early nineteenth century, this area was part of a red-light district that city reformers called Hell's Half Acre. It was also home to free and enslaved African Americans, who made their own way in a bustling business district centered on Line St. During the Civil War, it served as a temporary military base for federal troops and later became the first African-American bank in Nashville.

Many of the city's most historic structures are located on or near this ridge, including the old Dodson School built in 1936 and expanded in 1950 and 1955.
